Take it at face value, I want to be friends.
I won't accept your friend requests,
but I like all of your Insta posts.
I send snap chats to your little brother,
but I won't sit next to you at his best friend's house
I won't even be at the same end of the room.
I'm in the 6th grade
and
there's a boy in my basement who gives me 2 cents more than any other 7th grader
and
he txts me later,
he found my number
in a cearel box,
where prizes hide.
I'm in the 8th grade
and I borrow his jacket
we walk home from school together,
that's all.
He has eyes for a blonder beauty
sometimes,
she walks home too.
I'm in the 10th grade
He's never been coupled up like his friends
I'm still waiting for the 7th grade boy and his penny thoughts
so I give him my own,
more than 2 cents
more than 50
everything I have.
on my 16th birthday,
I think I have the world
In the 11 grade he left the world behind
went to learn about romance and God.
I wondered every day.
he never wrote back.
I am a sophomore in college
he is reaching
and reaching
I do not know,
if there are words to reply
I am still in the 6th grade
I won't answer his friend request to see if he notices
I will like all of his photos to see if he notices
I will wait for his penny thoughts hoping he notices
I will ignore his efforts,
in an effort to be tragic like the movies
romantic like his Italy,
mysterious like the magazines,
independant like the blonde he wanted to so many 8th grades ago.
hoping,
that he'll work for 2 cents again.
sarah!!!!! i love this. "i am still in 6th grade" same
